Alexander Röntgen, Senior Executive Coach

Why me?

From the boardroom to a coach at eye level.

When I ended my 15-year career as a CEO in listed companies in 2008, I never thought I would “land” in coaching. But a friend’s request to “step in” in the C-level, managing director and partner space appealed to me. Today, more than 15 years later, coaching is the most fulfilling chapter of my professional life, and beyond.

The self-confidence of the C-level was quickly curbed back then. My constant CEO-style demeanour, including “firehosing” and poor listening skills, made for a bumpy start…. I “was allowed” to change….

What you can expect from me today:

Not a classic “question coach”:
We don’t work our way through questionnaires learned in coaching seminars. Every session is highly individual and leaves room to the left and right of the mainstream.
The hybrid: coaching plus experience:
With me, you get the coach and the former executive. My experience is “on standby”, and used exactly when it suits you.
Friendship for a limited time:
We always stay at eye level. If I succeed in underpinning our relationship with trust, I like to challenge, even provoke. And as serious as the situation can sometimes be: if you still have it, please bring your sense of humour along.

What do we work on?

Around 70% of my clients start exclusively with business topics, partly to take stock of their position, partly to broaden their horizons beyond their current boundaries.

Another group widens the scope, from “work towards life”. The trend is rising. Understandable to me: what sits opposite me is always the human being as a whole.

We find answers:

  • Do I get the appreciation I deserve?
  • Will I look forward to the next three years if they turn out much like the last three?
  • Am I managing my stakeholders successfully?
  • How does seniority/gravitas come about?
  • How about “clarity” instead of “soft or tough”?
  • Do I manage performance fairly and consistently?
  • Do my direct reports appreciate me? What for?
  • Do I avoid uncomfortable conversations/conflicts?
  • Do I resolve conflicts constructively?
  • Do I live according to my actual priorities?
  • “Is that supposed to be it?”

How we work

Common sense instead of rigid packages.

We work pragmatically on anything that “bugs” you, leaves you dissatisfied or simply feels “unfinished”.

We agree on concrete steps that you put into practice from one meeting to the next.

Short & efficient:
I don’t sell extensive packages of hours. Most things become clear within 2 to 4 sessions. An engagement typically lasts no longer than 2 to 6 months.
Extended workbench:
During our project you have unrestricted access to me.
Flexible & fair:
You can end the engagement at any time. Be it because of success coming too quickly :-), or because you feel we’re not a good match.
Location:
Virtual or in person in the Rhine-Main region (elsewhere by arrangement).

On ethics:

My goal is your independence.

A client once said: “Basically, you’re just a consultant like me.” I disagreed. A consultant lives off the dependence of their client, because they take over tasks you want to hand off. That is perfectly legitimate.

As a coach, my aim is the opposite: I gladly make myself “dispensable”. For me, an engagement is successful when you are noticeably more content, without feeling that you have to fall back on me.

What I believe in…

I want to work with you TODAY in such a way that, in a few years, you won’t regret not having reflected satisfactorily on your options for the future at the decisive, sometimes pivotal moment.

I believe that we can shape “fate” together, should there be such a thing.
